Professor (W3) in Infection Immunology

The successful candidate will be appointed as professor at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. At the same time, she/he will be head of the department of Infection Immunology at the HKI.

Candidates with an excellent publication record and experience in infection biology, preferably on T cell immunology with a focus on infections by human-pathogenic fungi, are encouraged to apply. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to carry out a rigorous research programme in innovative areas of infection biology of fungi, immunodiagnostics and cell therapy. The position further involves teaching in infection biology in the relevant degree programmes.

The position will be initially strongly supported by the Carl Zeiss Foundation. The position is associated with the graduate school Jena School for Microbial Communication (, a Graduate School of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments, and the CRC/TR FungiNet ( Jena has a strong community in microbial communication, microbiology, infection biology, biogeosciences, microbial diversity, natural product research and systems biology, documented by several collaborative research programmes and BMBF funded consortia. Jena provides an attractive research environment with a highly integrative network of life science groups, also including a close collaboration with biotech companies. The professor is expected to extend and intensify these collaborations.
